About the Order
The Order of the Hermetic Rose has its foundation in European pagan traditions as well as the Hermetic traditions stemming from Alexandria. The lineage can be traced through the Servants of the Light founded by Ernest Butler. Butler was a member of the Society of Inner Light founded by Dion Fortune and was also a student of Robert King, a well known bishop within the Liberal Catholic Church. Dion Fortune herself had Masonic and Theosophical training, and was a member of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn from which so much of modern day occultism has sprung. Such is the outer lineage of our school, however there is an inner lineage that may even be more important.
A contacted mystery school has an inner impulse that fuels its teachings. Without this inner impulse a tradition dies and becomes more akin to an old tome on a dusty bookshelf. An inner impulse or contact is both timeless and timely working through ancient temples and modern mystery schools attuned to the needs of humanity at any given time.
Hermetic Rose founder, Kate Warwick-Smith, is an initiate of several Western Mystery traditions. For over 30 years she has led groups, taught classes and worked with individuals practicing the Western tradition. She is also the author of The Tarot Court Cards: Archetypal Patterns of Relationship in the Minor Arcana (Inner Traditions, 2003).
